Eight kilometres from Albissola Marina and 12 kilometres from Savona we find Stella, the place where on 25 September 1896 Sandro Pertini, former President of the Italian Republic, was born. Among the attractions of a territory there are also its “human fruits” and Pertini was a resource both for Stella and for the whole of Italy.
Together with Elisabetta G. Favetta, President of the Sandro Pertini Association, we visit the house where the former President of the Republic was born, and here you can see photos of Pertini starting from his childhood. It is a real museum in which the personal effects of the President are preserved, from his coat to the suitcase used for running away to France.
During the visit, the members of the association tell us some salient episodes in Pertini’s life like the moment when he was branded a subversive or the day when he blessed the flag of the group of combatants he was in with Barbera.
The symbolic meaning of Pertini is still very strong and the values that he handed down – like freedom and the desire to work for people – are still important today, especially in the world of politics.
